Farmers Stand with Domino’s Pizza in Rejecting HSUS Bully Tactics

The Left loves to talk about bullying as a national crisis, and they are absolutely right.  American companies are constantly bullied by animal rights extremists, and the result is higher food costs for working families. Domino’s Pizza bravely decided to buck this trend when they rejected a proposal pushed by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to no longer purchase pork from farmers who confine breeding pigs in gestation crates.  Major fast-food chains like Wendy’s, Burger King, and McDonald’s have already agreed to abide by HSUS’ demands.  As a result, many cash-strapped farmers are now required to purchase expensive new equipment and engage in agriculture practices that run afoul of science and tradition.
Shareholders at Domino’s strongly voted down the proposal, which received support from only 4% of voting members.  Unfortunately, this will likely not be the last we hear of this attempt to have business policies determined by radical activists instead of credentialed scientists.  Matthew Prescott, HSUS Food Policy Director, said of the vote, “Garnering 4%…means the organization can bring it back again next year. By next year Domino’s management will be hard-pressed to continue to ignore this.”
If you are unfamiliar with HSUS, they are essentially PETA dressed up in suits.  They have been open about their intentions to gradually phase animal agriculture out of existence.  Often they do this through manipulative state-wide ballot propositions and federal lobbying, but they aren’t above putting pressure on private businesses to either change their ways or become victims of the multi-million dollar HSUS smear-campaign budget.
Domino’s had the courage to say no to HSUS’ extremist agenda.  For that courage, they are being rewarded by the agriculture community across the United States.  This past weekend, May 18-20 agriculture organizations encouraged their members to buy a Domino’s pizza and to leave a note thanking the company for standing up to HSUS.
As conservatives, we should applaud Domino’s as well.  Protecting the ability of Americans to raise their own food through the use of scientifically sound agricultural practices is critical to our national security.  When America cannot produce its own food, we will be forced to rely on other countries that can, and I assure you, those countries are not interested in animals’ welfare or ours.

  1. I am not a HSUS fan but I find the legalisms of this blog to be quite interesting and completely devoid of any ethics. I doubt if that concerns the author whose self righteous based bigotry gives remembrances of the same kind of attitudes found in sister groups like the Taliban and al Qaeda.

  2. Hello,
I am a STAUNCH Conservative, and contrary to what you OBVIOUSLY believe, it is NOT only the Left that cares about the treatment of farm animals. And I am NOT a vegan, heck, I'm not even a vegetarian, but it is appalling the way farm animals are treated. In this article the writer says: 'As a result, many cash-strapped farmers are now required to purchase expensive new equipment and engage in agriculture practices that run afoul of science and tradition.'
First, I don't believe that "science" would conclude that confining animals to cages large enough only for their own body, with no room to turn around or lie down, or confining HUNDREDS of animals to ONE cage, standing on top of cage-mates who have died or been dead for days, and fighting each other 24 hours a day, produces "better" products than animals treated in a HUMANE fashion!
Second, just because something is "a tradition" DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT OR HUMANE!
Just ONCE, JUST ONCE, I would LOVE to be able to cage a farmer in EXACTLY THE SAME WAY THE FARMER CAGES HIS ANIMALS, and see how HE/SHE likes it! standing in a cage only large enough to contain your body size, with NO ABILITY TO TURN AROUND, SIT, OR LIE DOWN - YOU WOULD LAST ABOUT 1 HOUR - yet you condemn these animals to a LIFETIME OF INHUMANS TORTURE!
Like you ASSUME that all people who stand-up for animals are on the "Left," I don't want to assume that you are God-fearing Christians, but in the bible it says to "treat others as you would have others treat you" - and since animals are God's creatures also, I believe that they deserve the same respect. It just seems to me that farmers have NO EMPATHY - it's ALL ABOUT THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR! Well, economics 101, it takes money to make money. EVERY company budgets money for BUSINESS IMPROVEMENTS, EXCEPT THE FARMING INDUSTRY! You actually treat the animals WORSE to squeeze MORE MONEY out of them with NO IMPROVEMENTS FOR THEIR WELFARE!
P.S. I have a cousin who is a farmer in Pennsylvania, and may be selling his farm. He is a compassionate farmer, and is trying to make upgrades to treat his cows and chickens better, but if he can't, he will sell.

    1. Obviously CMM912 thinks that all farmers treat animals the way the HSUS has stated they do. This is simply not the case. It is a big mistake to believe much of what the HSUS says, the videos they show (especially since they manage to EDIT the videos or even PAY a farm worker to do stupid stuff to the animals...as in the Ohio case). It might be a good idea for you to actually locate a farm and visit it to see how animals are managed. Consider that most farmers and cattlemen manage their animals according to SCIENCE-BASED information. People who are not familiar with hogs imagine it is horrific for a sow to be in a gestation crate. They don't understand that that same sow, if free ranging, will fight with the other sows, keep some from the food, lay on her piglets, or even eat the piglets! When you don't understand why a practice is in place, then you can believe whatever the HSUS says...but if you know something about the animals, then it becomes a very different matter.

    2. CMM912 your completely insane and brainwashed. What you describe isn't farming , its actually our government. I live in a dairy state and have traveled most of the state and have yet to see one example of what you inaccurately describe. In fact most farm animals live in better places than the farmer. Yes farmers are driven by making money, but unlike the left wing hogwash you subscribe to they value the living and the freedom this country once provided. And with the Obama administration it is all about the mighty dollar and nothing to do with human decency or morals, which 99% of all farmers adhere to. In fact if we had farmers running the country instead of crooked lawyers we would not be in this mess. Your in fantasy land and need to get a brain.

  4. "Cmm912" You sound like you are totally believing the Animal Rghts part of the story instead of researching true facts!! You are drinking HSUS's Koolaid alright! Do you want to get your meat from Mexico, or some other unregulated country? This is what will happen eventually if you are too hard on farmers who work their fingers to the bone already, caring, loving, and providing for their animals to feed your complaining mouth.......:( Farmers work hard to feed America, and they don't receive near enough thanks for their effort. That is why we are loosing more farmers every day! Yep food from unknown sources are going to be on the store shelves before you know it, and no one will have any say so what so ever how the product is raised....
